Decathlon to open 100 new outlets in the UK
French firm Decathlon is thought to be considering purchasing parts of Best Buy’s store portfolio, as it looks to open 100 new outlets in the UK.
The world’s biggest sports retailer currently has just 12 UK shops, but is looking to expand into the sector after the collapse of Blacks Leisure and the struggles of JJB Sports.
Decathlon is in talks to buy some of Best Buy’s 11 stores in the UK, going head-to-head against Morrisons, which is also thought to be bidding for more sites as locations for its Kiddicare brand.
Steve Dykes, the retailer’s UK managing director told the Sunday Telegraph that despite the squeeze in shoppers’ spending power, "the window of opportunity can be quite small and now is the right time to shoot for it".
