The portal, localised to Arabic and English, will serve businesses across the entire Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, highlighting Dubai's role as a leading business hub and gateway into Africa. Alibaba.com, which boasts 36 million registered users from more than 240 countries and regions and 2.8 million supplier storefronts.
The Alibaba.com collaboration portal will allow Dubai Chamber members to create a virtual catalogue of their products free of charge, maximising their international exposure and allowing them to expand and manage their businesses. It will also create a ‘trusted traders club’ as well as offering potential global customers the opportunity to become part of a networking group and to share knowledge and experience with companies that are already successfully trading on the Alibaba.com website.
In a ceremony on the second day of the Africa Global Business Forum 2013, H.E. Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman, Dubai Chamber, said: “The launch of this exciting new e-commerce site on the sidelines of the Africa Global Business Forum 2013 demonstrates Dubai's role as a gateway into and out of the continent. It also shows how Dubai is leading the MENA region in terms of the provision of e-commerce”.
