A Taunton shop is hoping a revamp will help in the face of bargain bucket competition.
Poundstretcher in Bridge Street completed a £100,000 refit just as Poundworld opened the doors to a new store on North Street.
The Poundstretcher refit saw new tills, better CCTV, and wider aisles inside the store, as well as opening up a Pet Hut inside the building offering a range of discounted pet goods.
A leaky roof was also repaired.
Area manager Jon Woods said: "Poundstretcher has invested huge amounts into the refit programme for a selection of its stores and I am pleased that Taunton has been one of the ones chosen for this.
"We have been in Taunton for more than 20 years and the store has not had any major work done on it before.
"The refit has enabled us to give the Taunton store a much better customer shopping experience."
Meanwhile the team at Poundworld said they've been blown away by the reaction to their new store, which opened on Thursday.
They say they are excited to bring the former BHS store in the town back into use.
More than 200 people queued outside the shop waiting for it to open its doors for the first time.
A Poundworld spokesman said: "We really are delighted to be able to breathe new life into such a prime retail space in the town and help people save money on their weekly shop in the process."
