The online retailers are doing lot many experiments these days. They are trying to add new product categories in a bid to attract new buyers. Flipkart
too has hopped on the boat and is planning to sellcars and motorcycles.
Flipkart has tied up with two local dealers - a Khivraj Motors for Bajaj motorcycles and Kalyani Motors for Maruti Suzuki cars, who will soon be selling on its platform within Bengaluru.
Automobile accessories is already among the top 10 sale categories on Flipkart and most of the sales come from Bengaluru followed by Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. So it comes as a little surprise that Flipkart is entering this segment.
It is noteworthy that Snapdeal last month had kick-started Snapdeal Motors, which is a platform for buying automobiles. Snapdeal
has partnered with Hero Motors and Piaggio to sell motorcycles and mini trucks and it claims to offer an "integrated buying experience", enabling online booking and loan approvals within two minutes of a vehicle purchase on the site. Snapdeal is also working with Mahindra and Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki and Datsun to sell their vehicles on the site.
While we have Flipkart and Snapdeal slugging it out in this segment, we want to ask how comfortable you are with the idea of buying your next car online shop? Do let us know your feedback through the comments below.
