Poundland is planning to build on its baking success by launching a DIY range in partnership with TV personality Tommy Walsh.
Home and DIY retailers Homebase and B&Q have suffered in recent months and Poundland is thought to be keen on challenging them in the wake of store closures and a shift in consumer spending habits that has seen middle and upper income families embrace budget and discount retailers in the past 12 months.
The new range – in which all products will be priced at £1 - follows a successful launch of baking equipment in a partnership with celebrity baker Jane Asher, as well as a well-received beauty and cosmetics range.
Commenting on his collaboration, Tommy Walsh said, “I’ve been working with Poundland for over a year now, developing and testing the ‘DIY: Time’ range to produce good quality products at the lowest possible price of just £1. It is a great opportunity to make DIY more affordable to everyone.’
Poundland chief executive, Jim McCarthy, said: ‘We are delighted that someone with Tommy’s expertise and reputation in the DIY sector has chosen to work with us to create this high quality affordable range.’
