Amazon ramps up fashion credentials with Shoreditch studio opening
Amazon UK is gearing up to position itself as a key rival to online fashion retailers with the launch of a new 46,000 square foot fashion photography studio in Shoreditch next summer.
In a move that will enable the e-commerce giant to begin to compete with retailers like Asos and Zalando for their catwalk-style shoots and styled collections, Amazon’s new studio will be located on Geffrye Street, by Hoxton tube station, and is planned to open in summer 2015.
“Fashion is one of the fastest growing businesses for Amazon across Europe, and the creation of this new studio illustrates both our ambitions in this area and our dedication to providing a first class customer experience,” said Amazon Fashion vice-president Sergio Bucher. “Our new studio will enable us to produce high volumes of top-class photography by employing great talent in one of the leading fashion capitals of the world.”
According to the Guardian, the new studio will offer 35 new permanent jobs at Amazon, ahead of an expected recruitment drive when the company opens a separate office in Shoreditch.
