Sales of Barbie dolls slide as Mattel approaches the festive rush
Mattel has reported that sales of Barbie dolls are declining as the toymaker heads tentatively for the crucial festive season.
Sales of Barbie dolls fell 21 per cent for the three months ended 30 September – even higher than last quarter's 15 per cent decline.
American Girl toys fared similarly, with a seven per cent slide.
Mattel reported a profit of 97 cents per share on a revenue of USD 2.02 billion for the period. Its adjusted earnings came to 98 cents.
Analysts were expecting per-share earnings of USD 1.02 and revenue of USD 2.18 billion.
