American toymakers Mattel have brought in a new way to sell their iconic Thomas & Friends products to consumers – a brand new direct-to-consumer catalogue and website. They are also teaming with 20 independent specialty brands that will sell wooden Thomas toys.
American customers will have the option of purchasing limited edition goods via the website, catalogue or specialty retailer. One limited edition product will be a small locomotive train called Logan. The website – ThomasWoodenRailway.com will be launched next month.
Mattel announced last week that in the second quarter they suffered a profit drop, which they put down to acquisition costs and soft Barbie sales.
