Morrisons head of online food Simon Thompson said the long-awaited launch of the retailer’s online delivery service went ‘better than expected’ with sales volumes exceeding expectations.
Having debuted its delivery service in the Midlands during the first few weeks of January, Morrisons today launched deliveries into Yorkshire, where the supermarket giant is headquartered in Bradford.
Confident in the roll-out to date, Thompson said the grocer had been “most encouraged” by sales over the first few weeks of the year, adding that they have been “better than expected”.
The company’s Birstall hub will now supply around eight per cent of the company’s online sales, with orders delivered straight from depots so as not to interfere with stores.
