The Mumbai-based multi-designer boutique Ensemble has recently previewed Autumn/Winter 2014 collections from two names in the Indian fashion industry- Urvashi Kaur and Rajesh Pratap Singh.
The Paris-trained, Bollywood celebrity-favoured international womenswear brand Urvashi Kaur featured an indigenous hand-woven textile rich line titled Shunya. Made from a variety of silks like Maheshwari, Chanderi, Tassar, Tissue, Matka and Kota blended with voile, linen and Khadi cotton, the pieces are adorned with Japanese and Indian tie-and-dye techniques such as Shibori and Bandhej with a splash of mosaic-inspired block prints.
Detailed with hand tucking, subtle ruching, pleats, volumes, layering, unconventional drapes and innovative cuts, the collection includes dresses with asymmetric folds and hemlines, Angrakha inspired tunics, shalwars, flared pants, reversible sheer jackets and crop tops.
Delhi-based designer Rajesh Pratap Singh showed a range of contrasts entitled Illusion. Crafted from both light gossamer fabrics and heavy opaque materials, the collection is a blend of structured ensembles and fluid silhouettes. Accented with silver, stainless steel and paper thin aluminium on hand-spun khadi, silk and linen, the showcased pastel and metallic hued ensembles were white shirts with bias-cut churi sleeves, village bundi vests, structured jackets and veils.
With stores in Delhi and Mumbai, Ensemble offers designs from labels like Tarun Tahiliani, Rohit Bal, Anamika Khanna, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Manish Malhotra, Wendell Rodricks, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Varun Bahl and Gaurav Gupta.
A graduate from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Delhi, Rajesh Pratap Singh has showcased his collections in Paris and Milan other than India.
A fashion design alumnus from Esmod Intl, Paris (Ecole Superieure des Arts et Techniques de la Mode), Urvashi has assisted fashion moguls like Marcel Marongiu, Lolita Lempika and Issey Miyake.
