Malawi, already in the news for its successful netball Queens who are adored by the British media, is on August 8, 2014 set to return into fashion reviews, as its inspired designer Mia Nisbet will showcase at the prestigious Africa Fashion Week London.
Mia, based in Manchester, said in an interview with Nyasa Times that since 2008 when she launched her label MIA, the journey, inspired by Malawian fashion mix, has seen the label grow and the showcase on August 8 is on a path to global recognition.
“Mine are ethical womens wear brand which fuses recycled clothing with traditional Malawian textiles,” says Mia, who spent time in Malawi.
The recycled clothes, are locally known as “Kaunjika” and Mia inspiration to design a mix of modern and traditional wear came from the beautiful visual as Malawians mix the two worlds together.
“The mix is a fusion of up-cycled, eye catching fusion between tradition and modernity,” says Mia.
Mia, whose show starts at 4pm on August 8, has received various awards since her launch
Africa Fashion Week London is Europe’s largest event for African and African inspired fashion and will be held at London Olympia.
